I,m a student at U of M-Dearborn and I have an 8 part assignment due unfortunately I having troiuble wiht the eighth part. Can you direct me to any literature that would clarify for me the differences between a drugstore and a pharmacy? Also what would a store like GNC (vitamin and supplement stores) be classified as and current debates surrounding this particular type of store (literature also). This would be a big help to me. Thanks. -- Ernest,
There is a subtle difference between a drugstore and a pharmacy. All drugstores are pharmacies but all pharmacies are not drugstores. Every hospital has a pharmacy but no one would consider it a drugstore.
A drugstore is an older term meaning a neighborhood pharmacy. I hope that helps. GNC is a health food store that is not staffed by pharmacists but rather sales people. It could be considered a drugstore of a type but could never be considered a pharmacy.
Thanks,
